The effort to move the Moonridge Animal Park to the Northshore on National Forest Land next door the Discovery Center has stopped. The following details are historical notes regarding the relocation of the Moonridge Animal Park on National Forest Service Land.

1. The Draft Environmental Impact Study(NEPA) was released October 2008

2. Some Public comments to the NEPA study asked why are you dealing with the National Forest Service when there is private land available. According to the National Forest Service regulations, in order for the park to locate on forest property, it has to be the last resort--there are no other alternatives. During the past eight (8) years that the Moonridge Animal Park has been working with the National Forest Service, land opportunities have changed in Big Bear Valley.

3. Therefore, the animal park has proceeded to conduct a due diligence search for available privately held land in Big Bear Valley area.

4. Given viable land is NOT available, then we will continue working the National Forest Service.

5. Given the National Forest Service issues a Special Use Permit, Construction Documents will be developed.

6. Based on the Construction Documents, the County will put out Request for Proposals (RFP) to contract building the Park.

7. Estimate 1½ to 2 years construction time is needed before opening the Park.
